Let's Eat!

Here are some of my favorite local places to eat in the greater Augusta area! I have broken them down by area. FF stands for Family-Friendly. The greater Augusta area has SO many wonderful, locally owned restaurants- there is no way I could ever list them ALL in one place! These are simply some of my family's favorites- and we hope you will enjoy them, too! There is truly something for EVERYONE in the area. Just a few more reasons that you can love where you live!

Downtown Augusta/Medical District/"The Hill"

Frog Hollow Tavern- often rated one of the best fine dining restaurants in the area. Farm to table food, seasonal revolving menu, incredible atmosphere, wonderful service! Get reservations for this one! ($$$) www.froghollowtavern.com

Whiskey Bar Kitchen-known for their creative burgers and Japanese dishes- along with over 200 whiskey options. Give the Elway burger and onion rings a try- you'll thank me later. ($$) www.whiskeybarkitchen.com

The Southern Salad -farm fresh ingredients come together for a fast but always fresh custom salad, bowl, or smoothie. "Clean Greens in the Dirty South" that can't be beat. All ingredients are organic and locally sourced-with many varieties of lettuce hydroponically grown. While you're there, peek in the Augusta Visitors Center right next door! Abel Brown- known for their oysters and fresh regional seafood and produce, this is quickly becoming a local favorite for fine dining.  Reservations Recommended! ($$$) www.abelbrownaugusta.com

Fat Man's Cafe- Open for breakfast and lunch,  it's traditional Southern comfort food at its best. The Fat Man's brand is an Augusta legend- and for us, a family favorite. It is located in the historic Enterprise Mill on the Augusta canal serving farm to table hot, fresh food.. Fat Man's is also one of Augusta's best caterers. (FF) ($) www.fatmans.com

Farmhaus- If a burger is what you are craving- look no further. Farm to table model (same owners as Frog Hollow and the Frog and Hen) but in a walk up, casual setting. Try one of the signature burgers or build your own. This is a local favorite- and after you try it, you'll know why! 2 locations- one on Broad Street in Downtown Augusta and one on Wheeler Rd, just off I-20 in Martinez. Southbound Smokehouse-I am a bit of a barbeque snob- and Southbound REALLY hits the nail on the head. PLUS, the menu boasts more than just BBQ with delicious cantina options- along with a fun atmosphere, with live bands and trivia on different nights of the week. Try the soul rolls for an awesome appetizer.  2 locations- one on Central Ave and one in the new SRP Park in Downtown North Augusta. (FF-early) ($$)  www.southboundsmokehouse.com

Olivianas Italiano- Rustic Italian dishes and pizza in a beautiful, elegant atmosphere. Extensive bar menu, and excellent service. I love to build your own pasta options. ($$$) www.olivianaitaliano.com

Nacho Mama's Burritos- Funky and fun, build your own mexican dish or try a signature option. Walk up/counter service right in the heart of downtown on Broad Street. (FF) ($) www.nachomamasaugusta.com

Rae's Coastal Cafe- tucked away in a neighborhood on "the Hill," Rae's is a hidden but not-so-hidden gem in Augusta, as it is a local favorite. Known for Caribbean dishes and excellent seafood in a fun, beachy atmosphere with an awesome outdoor dining area overlooking Rae's Creek. (FF-early)($$$) www.raescoastalcafe.com

Noble Jones- Located in the old Cotton Patch restaurant- this new concept offers "Modern Southern" cuisine- with menu options like fried pickeld okra, "Barba-cuban" sandwich, with classics like steaks and seafood dishes, too, there is something or everyone!. The courtyard dining area is perfect any time of day, but especially dreamy at night. Of course, don't miss their amazing cocktail menu and flaming cheesecake for dessert! Augusta:

T-Bonz Steakhouse- An Augusta Classic- known for delicious steaks (and seafood, wings and more)  in a casual, affordable, family friendly atmosphere. (FF) ($$) www.tbonzofaugusta.com

Frog and Hen- A NEW casual dining option in the Martinez/Augusta area. The entire menu revolves around all natural,  antibiotic-free roasted chicken with organic, seasonal sides. Rhinehart's Oyster Bar- The "Beyond Casual" Augusta legend- known for SUPER casual beach shack atmosphere (complete with writing on walls and tables, paper plates and cups) known for seafood and oysters, of course. Good chicken and burgers, too. Fun atmosphere with great outdoor dining. Two locations- Washington Rd in Augusta and Evans, GA. (FF-early, 21+ late evenings) ($) www.rhineharts.com

Sunrise Grill- Local favorite for breakfast and lunch, serving traditional dishes at reasonable prices in a cute diner-style atmosphere. Two locations- Washington Rd in Augusta and North Augusta, SC. (FF) ($) www.thesunrisegrill.com

 

Sconyer's BBQ- Serving old fashioned pit BBQ since 1956. Service is CRAZY fast (great for the kids), portions are generous, and prices reasonable. The log cabin style building and servers dressed in old-time outfits make for a unique experience. They can easily handle big groups and you can meet the owner as you walk in most days. Giuseppe's-one of the first restaurants I feel in love with when I moved to Augusta. Small, casual atmosphere serving up amazing Italian dishes and pizza. If I had an Italian grandma- this is how she would cook! My husband loves the chicken saltimbocca- I love just about everything! Go early to avoid the crowds! (FF) ($$). www.gpizza.net

Roadrunner Cafe- Wide range of classic American dishes made fresh in house- there's sure to be something for everyone. Casual, fun atmosphere and affordable prices. (FF) ($) www.roadrunnercafe.com

North Augusta:

SnoCap Drive In- If there is ONE place you don't miss in North Augusta- this is it! A North Augusta tradition since 1964-under new (still local!) ownership features incredible burgers, hot dogs, BBQ and one of THE  best Root Beer floats you can get in the south! The Purple Hull- Serving lunch everyday and dinner Thursday-Saturday. Fresh, seasonal sides and delicious meat choices. A little local market as well! See website for menu and hours. (FF)($) www.thepurplehull.com

Barbeque Barn- North Augusta tradition, Southern BBQ with all 4 regional sauces available. Great portions and reasonable prices. DON'T skip dessert- some of the best in the area! (FF)($) www.BBQBarnNA.com

Manuel's Bread Cafe- Nestled in the breathtaking Hammond's Ferry neighborhood, Manuel's offers a french twist on fresh menu selections, with many ingredients grown right down the street in a garden. Beautiful outdoor patio. We LOVE the creme brulee, as well as their other desserts! A hometown classic for the North Augusta areas. (FF-early)($$) www.manuelsbreadcafe.com

Pot Smoker BBQ- Serving up local BBQ favorites in a family friendly, casual atmosphere. The potato salad is AMAZING. Family Night on Thursday's kids eat free- and lunch on Sunday's they have an awesome buffet!  (FF)($$) www.thepotsmokerBBQ.com

Old McDonald Fish Camp- Since 1977, people have driven from all over the area to dine at this one of a kind restaurant. My kids love it for the farm animals you can feed outside and the all you can eat grits and hushpuppies. My husband loves it for the fish! Very quaint log cabin on a pond. Only open Thursday through Saturday for dinner. And go early- and even then, be prepared for a little wait. It's very popular. (FF) ($$) www.oldmcdonaldsfishcamp.com

Southbound Smokehouse- North Augusta. Second location- this one is at the brand new SRP Park- with incredible views of the ballpark and the river. Super fun rooftop bar overlooking the river. A favorite for Girls (or guys) Night Out! (FF-early) ($$) www.southboundsmokehouse.com

Evans/Grovetown:

Laziza Mediterranean Grill- Amazing traditional Mediterranean cuisine, super friendly staff in a very welcoming counter service style restaurant. Portions are generous and fairly priced. Second location coming on Broad Street soon. (FF)($) www.lazizagrill.com

Goolsby's- Cafeteria style (but don't let that scare you! The food is fresh!) Southern food that always hits the spot. Two locations- one in Evans and one in Grovetown. Watch the website for hours. (FF) ($) www.goolsbys.com

 

Augsburghaus- One of my husbands favorites and one of the only places in the area to get traditional, authentic, made from scratch German cuisine. You can almost always find the owners and their family working the restaurant. Portions are MASSIVE and amazing. Don't miss this little hidden gem. (FF) ($$) http://www.augsburghaus.com/

French Market Grille West- Amazing Cajun and Creole cuisine in a fun, festive atmosphere! Excellent drink choices! DON'T Miss the peanut butter pie! (FF-early) ($$-$$$) 

 

Takosushi- An Augsuta area favorite-their slogan is "Far East Meets Southwest"- which is a great description of their eclectic menu which features some of the best local sushi and fresh tacos, burritos and quesadillas. (FF) ($$-$$$) www.tako-sushi.com

Ironwood Tavern- One of our favorite's- Ironwood features wood-fired pizzas, sandwiches, creative chef's specials in a fun atmosphere. My kids love the chicken and waffles- I love the bulgogi pizza! (FF)($$)  https://www.facebook.com/IronwoodTavernGA/

Sweet Treats:

Pelican's Snoballs- Soft, fluffly New Orleans Style Snoballs in over 100 flavors with fun toppings. . Games for the kids. Very affordable. Pet Friendly! Three CSRA locations: North Augusta, Groveotwn, Augusta. Find them on Facebook! www.pelicansnoballs.com

The Pink Dipper- A North Augusta tradition!  Old Fashioned Ice cream parlor featuring handscooped ice cream, amazing sundaes and milkshakes.  Great prices, friendly service. I love the sea turtle and hot fudge sundaes! Don't miss this one! www.pinkdipper.com 

 

The Boll Weevil- Nestled in a 1850's Cotton Warehouse in Downtown Augusta- this sweetery and cafe (they have great food, too!) is minutes from the Augusta Riverwalk and amphitheater. They have AMAZING and HUGE desserts, a must if you have a sweet tooth! We love the Perfect Chocolate Cake, the Red Velvet, and Canary Lemon!  www.thebollweevil.com 

 

Wild Sugar- This sweet shop in Evans, GA has a little bit of everything from frozen yogurt, to milkshakes, to fudge and beyond. Group can't decide on what sweet treat to grab? Head here for plenty of great options! www.thesugarbooger.com

Summerville Scoops- Tucked away in the Daniel Village shopping center in the Summerville area- Summerville Scoops is an ADORABLE ice cream parlor that features 10 revolving FRESH ice cream flavors. Sundaes, shakes, cookie sandwiches and more! Check them out at www.summervillescoops.com

Smallcakes- Smallcakes is a small-batch bakery that features cupcakes baked fresh daily -with perfectly moist cake and tons of icing- the BEST part! Each month, they have a new daily menu of original cupcake flavors to try! My kids love the Birthday Cake with sprinkles, but my husband and I LOVE the chocolate cream Filled, wedding cake, and lemon! Definitely too good to share! Two locations- Evans and North Augusta.

Local Coffee/Bakeries 

Christie's Coffee Co-  Two awesome locations -a tiny house drive thru in North Augusta, and a drive thru/eatHA  in combo in Harlem, GA! Locally roasted beans, highest quality ingredients make for excellent coffee! I'm a little partial to this one, because its ours :)

Stone Roastery- Located in North Augusta- Stone Roastery features some of THE best coffee- with beans roasted in house for maximum freshness! Another favorite are the DELICIOUS cakes that make the perfect pairing to some awesome coffee! www.stoneroastery.com

Buona Caffe Artisan Roasted Coffee- An Augusta favorite- Buona Coffee is found in many businesses in the Augusta area. Located on Central Avenue- not far from Augusta University- Buona is the perfect place for meeting up with friends or getting some work done. Sheila's Baking Co. - Sheila is a quickly becoming a local sensation for her INCREDIBLE home-baked goods such as cinnamon rolls, kolaches and doughnuts! Currently, she travels in her bakery bus (find her on Facebook or Instagram for locations!) but is in the process of opening a storefront in downtown North Augusta!
